Help & support
Google Pay is a handy and secure way to pay using your Android phone or Google Wear OS wearable. You can use Google Pay anywhere contactless payments are available, such as cafes, supermarkets or petrol stations.
It only takes a few minutes and all you'll need is your Android phone or Google Wear OS wearable and an eligible CommBank card.
You'll still receive the same rewards, points and protection from your CommBank card when you use it with Google Pay.
What is Google Pay and how does it work?
Google Pay is a free third party app that allows CommBank customers with an eligible debit or credit card to make tap and pay transactions.
To make a payment using an Android phone, simply wake and hold your phone near the terminal. If the payment is successful you will see a blue check mark confirming the payment has been accepted.
To make a payment using a Google Wear OS wearable device, open the Google Pay app on your wearable and simply tap your wearable near the terminal. If the payment is successful you will see a confirmation on the terminal confirming the payment has been accepted.
Which devices are eligible for Google Pay?
Compatible Android phones that have operating system 5.0 (Lollipop) and above with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
Google Wear OS supported wearables include Fossil Q, Huawei Watch 2, TAG Heuer Connected. Visit Google Wear OS website for full list of supported wearables.
Which cards are eligible?
You can add your CommBank Debit Mastercard, CommBank World Debit Mastercard™, personal and business credit cards, corporate credit and charge cards and Visa Business Debit card. If you are an additional cardholder, you may add your eligible Commonwealth Bank credit card to Google Pay provided it is Mastercard branded. Visa credit cards issued to additional cardholders may be eligible for Google Pay, however, a transaction limit of $100 will apply.
Visit the Google Pay website and the Google Wear OS support website for more information.
When making payments using Google Pay, your CommBank card number is not stored on your device or shared with merchants. Merchants will only see your Virtual Account Number, which is an alternative to your card number. It’s a way of protecting your card details so they aren’t exposed to anyone other than you.
We’ll protect you from losses due to unauthorised transactions on personal and business accounts when you take the necessary steps to stay safe online.
1 Provided you comply with the Credit Cards Conditions of Use if you have a credit card, and/or the Transactions, Savings and Investment Accounts Terms and Conditions if you have a debit card and the Electronic Banking Terms and Conditions.
Google Pay is currently available for Android running 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher with a Near Field Communication (NFC) antenna and Host Card Emulation (HCE) support.
Google Wear OS by Google works with phones running Android 4.4+ (excluding Go edition) and iOS 9.3+. Supported features may vary across watches, phones and countries.
