Frequently Asked Questions

Following the exit of the existing banking provider, and the recent announcement of a Treaty between the Governments of Australia and Nauru, CommBank will establish banking operations in Nauru.

It’s important for you to fill out our new customer form above as soon as possible to become a CommBank customer and continue to access, face-to-face, over the counter transaction banking services.

If you don’t complete the new customer account form and complete your ID Check soon, we will not be able to onboard you as a CommBank customer. This means you and you may lose access to banking services in Nauru in the future, through your existing banking provider.

When the Agency is fully operational, by becoming a CommBank customer, you will be able to continue depositing and withdrawing cash over the counter – fee free. This service is important for business customers for whom there might be significant impact on cash flow.

It’s up to you. You may wish to wait until you have received confirmation from us that a CommBank account has been set up for you, and once you have moved all your direct debits to your new CommBank account. As an additional consideration, the Agency will not be fully operational until later in 2025. Until this time, the Agency will have limited face to face and over the counter services so you may need to continue to rely on your existing banking provider for these services.

During the onboarding period and until our Agency is Nauru is fully operational, Agency staff can only provide a limited scope of services, including:

  • providing you with factual information around the process to be followed when completing your new customer account form and opening an account with us; and
  • certifying your ID documents.

Agency staff are unable to manage product or general advice queries regarding the provision of banking products to you.
