CommBank, Australia’s largest bank, is now servicing the people and businesses of Nauru.  

CommBank customers in Nauru can access a range of services including: 

  • Fee-free, over-the-counter deposits and withdrawals at the Agency
  • Streamline Basic, an everyday account for individual customers, with access to NetBank and Debit Mastercard 
  • NetBank Saver, an online savings account for individuals with the flexibility to move money in and out of your linked Streamline Basic account using NetBank or the CommBank App
  • Business Transaction Account for business customers with access to facilities such as Business Visa Debit Card and Merchant facilities (for select customers only).

How to become a CommBank customer

To become a Commbank customer, make sure you follow these steps:

You can visit either the two Agencies at Aiwo District and Ewa District to become a Commbank Customer.

Identification required One Primary Photographic Document (must contain photograph):

  • Drivers Licence issued in Nauru, Australia, or New Zealand
  • Nauruan Passport
  • Australian Passport (can be accepted up to 2 years from the expiry date)
  • International Passport or travel document

Required Identification for Under 18’s

  • Birth Certificate issued by Nauru, Australia or a foreign government, or the UN Birth Extract issued by an Australian State or Territory

If you are a business owner or will be a signatory to a business account, you need to also complete a paper-based business application form in the Agency.

Following the exit of the existing banking provider, and the recent announcement of a Treaty between the Governments of Australia and Nauru, CommBank will establish banking operations in Nauru.

It’s important for you to fill out our new customer form above as soon as possible to become a CommBank customer and continue to access, face-to-face, over the counter transaction banking services.

You can log onto NetBank at commbank.com.au/netbank or the CommBank app to access your account details.

Naurans who registered to become a CommBank customer were automatically registered for NetBank; our secure, online platform you can use to manage your finances.

Those customers were sent a confirmation email from [email protected] with a client number and an SMS with a temporary password.

Customers need to then visit commbank.com.au/netbank and log on to NetBank using the client number and the temporary password. At this stage a new password needs to be created.

Yes, Naurans can use the CommBank app if you have an everyday account with us and you’re registered (or are eligible to register) for NetBank.

As per our Transaction, Savings and Investment Account Terms and Conditions states, our full suite of CommBank products is not available to Nauruan customers There are some services that we are unable to provide. Additionally, when you access available CommBank services including NetBank and the CommBank app some information may not be relevant.

The best place to go for help with your CommBank banking is one of the two Agencies – addresses above. Staff there will be able to help you with any enquiries you may have. 

It’s up to you. You may wish to wait until you have received confirmation from us that a CommBank account has been set up for you, and once you have moved all your direct debits to your new CommBank account​.
